Focus on quality, marketing: Coir Survey

Alappuzha,Kerala, Apr 6 : A national market survey on the scope of coir products promotion had recommended quality upgradation and aggressive market campaign in non-coir producing states to exploit the limitless market potential for the eco-friendly coir products.

The report, released by Alappuzha BDS Project Director Jagat Shah at a function here today, spoke of lack of awareness among the general public, particularly youth and especially in non-coir producing states, on the eco-friendliness of coir fibre even as poor quality and delayed delivery of products were the major reasons hindering growth in domestic sales of coir products.

In his speech, Coir Board Director (Marketing) M Kumaraswam Pillai lauded the remarkable role played by Cluster Pulse, the implementing agency of SIDBI-aided Alappzha BDS, during the past three and half years in extending business development services in diverse areas which had succeeded in creating good impact on the Alappuzha Coir Cluster.

Mr Jagat Shah, in his speech, said Ahmedabad-based Cluster Pulse, which operates in 11 countries and with 12 offices in India, had contributed largely to make coir products known to the global market during the past three and half years of its involvement with the Alappuzha Coir Cluster.

He said quality of products and innovative designs played an important role in the promotion of coir products both in domestic and overseas markets.

He said the Indian coir industry had great scope to exploit the huge domestic market.
